Vintage Yamaha RZ350 Shock Rebuild

2/8/2017

This is an example of what we do here that a lot of shops can't and won't get involved in. This is a non rebuildable stock shock from a vintage 1984 Yamaha RZ350. The customer was looking for an upgrade in suspension so we gutted the rear shock and using a KYB 40mm valve body, some machining and ingenuity we were able to dramatically improve the action while saving the customer a good bit of money over buying a complete aftermarket shock. The nice part is the bike still looks stock. If you have a project and a realistic budget give us a call!

Questions about the RZ350 rebuild: can dampening be adjusted? can alternate rate springs be added? It looks like there is still a preload adjustment.

Yes, there is the stock rebound adjustment and spring preload. There is no compression adjuster. Spring rate may be changed to a stiffer or softer rate.

Hi I’m interested in getting my Vintage Yamaha RZ350, shock rebuilt by you guys.
Do you also regass the Shock?
What gas pressure is required?
Could it also be regassed again in the future if required?
Or would it need another total rebuild?

Cheers
Bruce

It is a complete rebuild so it includes nitrogen charging. There is no need to "regass" the shock at a later date unless you are rebuilding it or it is leaking. A functioning shock will not loose N2 unless it is leaking.

What's the average cost to rebuild rear shock? Nothing fancy (I'm 160 lbs -street rider) occasionally fast rides.
Thank you.

Hi James, we only offer a rebuild and revalve. The price to do that is $495.00 parts and labor (Canadian). This is not including a spring which you would not ned

You rebuilt my 1984 RZ350 shock a few years ago. I finally completed the restoration. Your shock rebuild performs flawlessly. Absolutely no complaints. Thank you for the great work!
